Software consulting for founders

I help founders plan and build software, from the first useful version to the architecture underneath it. Bring the idea, the awkward system, or the decision you've been putting off.

Talk through your project

What I can help with

A new product, a slow database, a system nobody wants to touch. Start with the problem; choose the tools after that.

Software consulting

Work through architecture, technical priorities and difficult tradeoffs. Get a clear next step you can act on.

Custom software

Build the product feature, internal tool or integration your work needs, with testing and a useful handover.

Web applications

Connect the interface, API and database around a clear user journey. Make the ordinary tasks easy to finish.

How I approach the work

Make a useful first version

Choose one real task and make it work. A prototype should answer a question before it acquires a roadmap.

Explain the tradeoffs

Put the options, costs and constraints in plain language. You should know why a technical choice fits your business.

Leave a clear handover

Keep the code, tests and documentation understandable for whoever works on the system next. That might be you.

I'm Matthew

I work across software development, database design and system architecture. That means looking at both the code and the decisions around it: what to build first, what can wait, and what needs attention before it becomes everyone's Friday afternoon.

I make games, too

JupiterSoft Games is home to Red Hope, a Mars colony sim, and Curbside, a pixel game about finding value in what the neighborhood throws out. Both have free demos.

What are you working on?

Tell me what you're trying to build or fix, what exists already, and where you're stuck. A rough description is fine.
